Remake - Dan Dare

For this week's Whitechapel remake of DAN DARE! The challenge was as follows...

"This week, we do it a bit like our friends at Project Rooftop.

Here's what you know.

Dan Dare, pilot of the future. Colonel Dan Dare, in fact, chief pilot of Spacefleet.

(Spacefleet always seemed resolutely British, with a few token foreign johnnies thrown in, presumably as spaceship ballast or a nod to the fact that there are three or four countries on the planet other than Britain.)

Dan Dare is a man who has taken skiing holidays on the northern slopes of Mars.

The stories were set in the late 1990s but the dialogue and manner of the characters is reminiscent of British war films of the 1950s. (As was the tech.)

As well as flying the mighty vessels of Spacefleet (which could reach as far as Saturn on the one side and Mercury on the other) Col. Dare had a personal spacecraft called the Anastasia."

I did a version of this character for the 2000AD cover remake [link] . I decided not to rehash old ideas and went for something a little different.
